IMG_4421.PNG so we are under a heat warning for a week or more. What can I do to keep my chicken cool. I don't want her to die of heat. I work from 6am to about 5pm. So no one will be home to feed her frozen doo dads all day.

Shade, water and ventilation. Most of mine have suffered temperatures approaching 110 F in middle of field with only a board protecting them from direct sun. They can handle it just fine. Contact with moist ground from 12 to about 5 PM helps. Most important to keep them out of sun during hours afternoon. Make so they can eat all they want in evening and expect reduced intake during the midday. Extreme heat will reduce egg production and growth.

I work all day too. I make sure my chickens have plenty of fresh clean water. I know they have plenty of shade & I also have a box fan attached to their coop. I turn it on in the mornings before work on days that will be above 90 degrees. I also put out water for them to wade in if they want. Usually they just scratch their litter in it and make a big mess. Go easy on feeding them scratch if it has a lot of corn in it. Corn makes them hot, so cut way back in the summer.
