Hey guys!
I am brand new to chickens this year. We up cycled a broken down old shed into a beautiful chicken coop and my kids and I researched everything like crazy people for weeks.

We bought 15 chickens from cackle hatchery but received 17 and one died of an impacted crop. We now have 8 speckled sussex (1 roo who is gorgeous) and 8 barred Plymouth rocks. Super excited to try to hatch and raise the cross between those called "daisybelles."

I absolutely love that our kitchen scraps aren't just being wasted anymore. I have 4 kids and I cook 98 percent of our meals at home. It feels so good to save money on chicken feed and reduce our waste!

I'm a stay at home mom homeschooling 4 kids (one still in diapers) I have no time for hobbies. But I find that I can read or drink my coffee with all the kids sitting outside watching our chickens so I'm counting that as my hobby.
My kids love the chickens but my 3 year old boy was pecked by our rooster and is now afraid of him. (I would love advice on that)..

I have seen this website many times answering my questions that I Google. Lol so I'm excited to be a part and get to post threads!

Welcome! My mother is also a stay at home mom, I'm so glad she home schools us. That sounds like a really cool cross! you could try having your son pet the Roo and give him treats while someone else holds the Roo. I'm so glad you joined byc!!
