Hi,

I am a newby to backyard chickens. I just picked up my "ready to lay" hens last week and they are becoming familiar with their new surroundings. I have found all sorts of really friendly useful information on the site which has made the decision to get hens and the process of preparing for their arrival less daunting. There is lot of learning for both owner and bird since they were cage raised up to 18 weeks. They are having trouble navigating the ramps and roosts.

Looking forward to getting them out in the yard soon.

Cheers

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Make sure that the ramps are not steeper than a 45 degree angle and that the wooden cross strips on them are not too far apart. Also, make sure that the roosts on your roosting ladder are not too far apart and extend almost all the way to the ground. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your hens.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Congrats on your new hens! I'm glad they are getting used to their new home. Once they are completely at ease and settled in, they will start laying eggs for you. I'm glad this site inspired you to get chickens! Now that you are a member, feel free to ask any questions you may have!
