Hello Everyone! After lurking for 2 years I finally decided to join you! My family lives about 50 miles west of St. Louis in rural Missouri. My daughter wanted to keep chickens as a 4-H project and although I was resistant and a little scared at first, I think I love them more than she does. We have a flock of 37 birds, breeds ranging from standard Rhode Island Reds to one tiny American Game Bantam hen. Thanks for all the advice you've unknowingly given me over the years. Looking forward to being part of your community!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. So nice that your daughter got you involved. Thank goodness for 4H & FFA who keep the numbers of members growing.

Welcome. My daughter got me started too. She came home with 6 free chickens, 2 years ago. Now I have an incubator, and currently over 100 birds which includes guineas, ducks, geese and chickens( chicken math say I only have 43 though). My daughter has moved away but the birds stay!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I was the same when I started with chickens. They were meant to be my sons and his Dad's birds. They grew on me and then there was no stopping me. I've now got my Mum into chicken keeping and she is enjoying very much too.

Wishing you the very best of luck in the future. Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining.) Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Our children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Welcome to the BYC flock! So glad you joined us!

So glad you have a 4-Her in your house. I did 4-H for many years and it was a very good experience all around.

By the way, you sound a little like me, only with me it was my hubby that suggested chickens. At first I thought he was joking and I just rolled my eyes at him! Now he's the one rolling his eyes at me because I'm a bit obsessed.
