Hi,

My name is Marie and while I'm originally from Germany, I have now been living in South Dakota for the last ten years. Last year my husband and I finally purchased a home with some acreage here in the Black Hills and I love having space for our two wonderful kiddos and all our pets!
Currently we have 3 horses, 4 dogs, 2 cats, 2 ferrets, 9 chickens and 1 Toulouse Goose.
All my chickens are different breeds: Della (Delaware), Mrs. Beak (Silverlaced Wyandotte), Berta (supposedly a Buff Orpington, but I think something went wrong as she is copper with black feathers in the tail), Mathilde (Barnevelder), Brownie and Nelly (Ameraucana), Sweetie (Blue Wyandotte), Freckles (Sussex) and Mrs. Tickles (White Leghorn).
Love all my ladies!
I'm looking forward to learning more about poultry through this community.

:D

Hi Marie, welcome to BYC! I've visited the Black Hills several times, it's a really interesting part of the country and always enjoyed it.

Sounds like you are having a great time with your birds. If you haven't already, check out the Learning Center..lots of good information there. If you have any questions, just post it and someone should be able to help out.

Glad you've joined us!

I do miss South Dakota.

Enjoy your lovely flock and welcome to ours!

Welcome to BYC, Marie! Glad you decided to join our flock. You have a nice mix of good layers. If you want to post a pic of Berta, maybe we can ID her breed for you. Also, most Ameraucanas are not true Ameraucanas, but Easter Eggers. If you want to post pics of Brownie and Nelly (be sure and include the legs in the pics), we can tell you whether you have true Ameraucanas or Easter Eggers. There is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/09/ameraucana-easter-egger-or-araucana.html explaining the difference. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
