Excited to join BYC!

Hi! I am new to chickens. I've wanted them for quite some time, and now I am strategically planning. I want to be sure I start the right way! I plan to get just a few chickens for eggs, but I have one particular neighbor who is notoriously peculiar so I need to be sure I get the quietest, most laid back chickens ever. I am also an avid gardener. I love to cook and bake, as well. My household includes 5 people; my parents, my two children, and me. I am a nursing student, so it's super helpful having hobbies where I can include my children and save money all at the same time. I just found BYC from an internet search, and I joined right away. I am currently researching chicken coop (and run) options and investigating how much forethought is needed before I begin my chicken adventure!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you will never save money owning chickens for eggs. It's just not possible unless you have a huge amount of very good year round forage and you never feed them.
