Hey everyone... I am getting rdy to buy a house with an acre of land.... I have wanted chickens for a while now that I will have the room I am excited to get started.... just wanted to get all my "ducks" or chickens in a row before I did!!

My advice is when thinking of your coop, know how many chickens you want then build for 10-15 more! :-)

Also welcome to BYC!

Yes, inevitably you WILL want more birds! 5 square feet per bird in the coop, 10 square feet per bird in the run. And if you have a safe place for them to free range a bit, by all means let them outside! They will be so much happier to roam. Just remember, free ranging chickens are subject to predators. So keep an eye on your babies.

Great to have you aboard and we do welcome you to our flock!

Glad you could join us! The above members have given you some good advice. It is better to build too large than too small and not have enough room.

If I had more space, I'd definitely have more birds.

Good luck with your future poultry adventures! Please make yourself and home and remember, we're here to help you out in any way we can. We'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
