Excited to talk to other chicken people!!

Thank you all!!! As of right now I have a Barred Rock, a couple Australorps, I think a couple Wyandotte! Still trying to confirm a couple of breeds! :-) Thank you for compliments on coop/run! I actually plan to start painting exterior today and we plan to split the inside of the coop this weekend to move the other chickens in! :-)

As far as predators, my biggest concerns were the raccoons and Bobcats that I have seen in our yard! We were able to take care of the raccoon (have not seen more but sure they are out there) We dug a 2 foot trench all the way around coop and run and burried wired. We doubled up on the wire on the bottom half of coop and all openings around coop itself is covered with the small wire cloth. We still may add smaller hardware cloth. I had a baby taken by a hawk during a supervised outside time under a picnic table, so my biggest concern was the strong covered run. I am sure we will be tweaking the coop and run as time goes on! :-)

You're welcome. If you had one raccoon in the area, you can bet there are others, and they will definitely reach through large mesh openings and grab your chickens and kill them (even though they can't pull them through the mesh they will chew off their legs). Definitely add that hardware cloth. It will add some expense to your coop, but it's cheaper than replacing your flock. Also, make sure that you use either a padlock or a double action latch on your coop door as raccoons can very quickly figure out how to open a single action latch.

Hope you can fix the raccoon problem!

So far, we have! We had 1 that hung around our backyard day or night whether we were out there or not! We knew she would be a problem, so she is gone! I have not seen another one since! :-)

Thank you for this info! Think we will have to work on more wire next! :-) And we definitely made sure latches on both run and coop door were racoon proof! :-) Thanj you for you help!!
