Expanding my FLOCK!

When winter is being cold windy, blowing snow with sleet added in ... chickens like to stay inside ... so ... a few more feet to move about ... and when it was -20° F ... they also liked to be inside more ...
Ha yes I agree with that. The concern I was having was about larger space was if it would too cold. I haven't planed on insulating it, and I know they are hearty birds, though with the much open space if it would be worse. though at 16x8 or 20x8, I think the added space may out weigh the temp differential

Fallacy...with adequate ventilation a coop 'holding heat' is moot.
More space is definitely better in your climate....unless your run is weather proof.
Chicken Cabin Fever is real! BTDT.

Yeah ... after a couple of back to back 2 foot snow storms ... you will be glad for some "extra" space!

I'm not sure if you are planning on using left over construction scraps, or just getting material at wholesale ...

Depending on materials available ... you could just as easily go 10'-12' X 16' ... plan on a bit of roof overhang too ... and the location may also dictate what size ...

What style of roof are you planing?

Ha the recent snow sure proved that one!! I wouldn't say scraps, left overs sure. The rest would be purchased at cost. I am looking to do a pitched roof, figuring around a 5/12 with a 1' overhang on front and back for airflow. I am shooting for a metal roof, to keep things from climbing on it. I also plan to attach the new run to the roof so it will be fully protected from predators. i have some space, I plan to lay it out this weekend to see what my maximum size can be.
