Somewhere after turning for 17 days and going into lockdown, I have gone from sheer excitement, to disappointment. It looks like my first try at hatching eggs in 10 years may be a forgettable experience. Out of the 12 eggs that I started with, it looks like only one has a clear defined air sac, when candled. Any body have any advice on what to look for during lockdown?

If the hatch does not go as well as I'd wish, are there any decently priced egg candlers that someone would suggest? Thanks and who knows, maybe I'll be singing a very different tune tomorrow.

My fingers are crossed for you!!

I hope your hatch goes well. I normally do not candle at all but a lot of people on here use mini mag lights. Just think positive thoughts

No advice or suggestions....just a word of encouragement: Don't give up till day 24 has come and gone. I'm in lockdown and my eggs are so dark I can't see through the shells and I lost power for a couple hours last night to top it off. I am so nervous that I think I have worn a hole in the kitchen tile running over to check the eggs.

Here is hoping you are singing a very happy tune tomorrow:celebrate

The air sac has nothing to do with development. Did you candle the eggs? Did you see any veins? If they have 'quit' this late in, you should see the air sac then a 'clear' area right below the air sac where the veins should be. Also candle the pointy (small) end of the egg, if the eggs completely 'full' you have hope!

I have a coleman LED flashlight. That baby shines through anything. I have marans eggs in the bator and am starting to see veins. Also this hatch that is in lockdown I have had temp swings and humidity problems. First one just hatch about an hour ago and I am on day 20. Give it time I have had them hatch as late as day 25. Sending hatching luck your way

Thanks for the encouragement folks. I am using a mini maglite, which has let me see embryonic development (floating black thingy); however, due to the power of the flash light and the dark tint of the eggs, I have never been able to see veins-- at all. That is why I asked for suggestions on a different candler. Eggs are completely dark..... save for the one that has the air sac defined when candled.

I've got a high-end streamlight that I usually use for hunting. I can see veins in my Marans eggs really well! Don't give up yet!

I did see a post somehwere with pics of someone use one of those Cool Lite testers on BCM eggs and you could see right through it. I'll look for the link because I think I remember where it is and if I find it, I'll post it on here for you.

ETA: It wasn't in the thread I was thinking it was. sorry
