Hi All. I thought I should check and see your opinions of this chick's vent. We got 3 English Orps Monday. First time newbie. They are 8-10 days old.All 3 are acting perfectly fine, with great appetites and hitting the waterer as expected. I noticed some dried what appeared to be cord remnant from this little one. Gave her a warm wipe with the washcloth, and noticed her vent very prominently. No redness or inflammation, just pink and kind of wiggling a little. I gave it a dab of coconut oil twice yesterday, but I noticed shavings sticking to it. I Any advice welcomed. Thank you.

any diahrea? (sp) possibly prolapsed a bit? Possibly something / someone nibbled feathers away leaving the area bare?

Aaron
Thanks, Aaron. No diarrhea. Been watching her every now and then to see if I can watch her eliminating, but no dice. Then again, I haven't seen it actually happen from any of them! But, believe me, they're going! I thought missing feathers as well. Of course, that may be me looking for anything other than prolapse. But again, no redness or distress at all.

Maybe you just got a Big Booty'd Birdie ? :)
Keep an eye on her but with that crinkle tart sticking out like that, others may notice it too, so make sure others don't start pecking at her or giving her grief.

She may have had pasty butt or a bit of an issue and someone else nibbled down there and took out the tender feathers, so now it's bare, and she will be fine when the regular feathers come in, but keep an eye out so she don't get picked on.

If there are no other signs of bad, ie prolapse, intestinal disease, or others pecking, im thinking she should be fine if she's pooping properly, not straining etc.

ps you said you put oil on it, coconut oil, doesn't it have a bit of a smell to it? that may have attracted the taste testers too. hard to say.

Hey Aaron, thanks a lot for this. I'm glad I asked. Yes, I'll quit the coconut oil. I'll watch her and report back. Have a great weekend.
