I'm getting six chicks from Meyer Hatchery. They were shipped yesterday morning priority express, supposed to be here this morning. But the tracking now says they'll be here 'by 3 pm Wednesday'. I'm panicking a bit--will they be ok? That seems like far too long for little ones to be in a box. I'm worried that I'm going to be picking up a carton of dead baby birds. It's really hot here. Any advice/reassurance would be welcome.

I have their brooder set up and sav-a-chick in their water, also a plain waterer and chick feed (non-medicated).

Have you already called your local post office? They may be able to help you get them as quickly as possible.
Yes, I went there yesterday to give them a heads up. They're excited for me. :) They've been good about calling the minute they arrive in the past, but I've only ever bought 2 week old or older. Thanks!

I have ordered from Meyer twice, 3 springs ago and again this spring. In each case I paid for Priority Express shipping and they shipped out on Monday but then tracking showed that they wouldn't get here until 3 pm Wednesday -- just like you. In each case they arrived in the middle of the day on Tuesday. The P.O. will call you when they arrive (the chicks will be in their backroom making a lot of noise) but you can also call the P. O. and see when they are expecting them.

Good luck! Let us know what happens! As you probably know, Meyer is in Ohio and it looks like you are in NC. For comparison purposes, I'm in Vermont.
