Hadn't thought about this until now. I heard the pheasants making their alarm call and went outside to see what was up. A very nice man was spraying the yard outside my neighbors house. I said hello and told him I heard my birds and he immediately said he was being careful not to get the spray in my yard. We share a board privacy fence. I don't see how he can keep it from getting in my yard. I don't use poisons at all so I was wondering, is the poison safe when it is dry? Will it hurt the chickens when it is still wet. I don't really trust them to stay away from it until it is dry. Its pretty windy today. I'm glad my garden is on the opposite side of my house!

I don't know. The house has been vacant since December when my neighbor died and her grandson is moving in in April. I'm guessing that it was a general tick/flea/roach/spider and whatever else spray. I feel it in my lungs and mouth just from being around it for 20 seconds. The guy spraying it didn't have on safety equipment; no mask or gloves or anything. See, this is why I really want to live out in the country...

If there's a board privacy fence between you, I would think very little of it would get on your side. Maybe I'm missing something here.

My concern is the wind ,and, the board privacy fence is only in our back yards. When I saw the man spraying, it was at the chain link gate - the only thing that is not board in the back yard. The boards are about 1/4 to 1/2 inch apart, plenty of room for spray to come through. I went home to check on them and gave treats on the opposite side of the yard so hopefully they'll stay away from that side for a while. They all seem fine and I'm sure this is not the first time this has come up. I just hate poison; I make all my own cleaning products for the house, DE for the animals, I use cornmeal or rice cereal for killing fire ants in the yard and organic garden practices. I guess I'll just have some good old dandelion tea to support my liver whily my body gets rid of the poison I was exposed to this morning.

I hate when they spray for anything! And I especially dislike the fertilizers and weed killers use on peoples lawns. I acutally had to laugh the other day the was a PSA on TV about dog feces contaminating our drinking water... ok.. what about all the pesticides and fertilizers, etc, not the mention that community water supplies around the country test with things like ... mercury, vinyl choloride, hormones, medicines, and in some cases rocket fuel.. and they are worried about dog feces? Sheesh

If you know the name of the company, call and ask what they used. You may be stressing out about a company that uses an organic spray.

That's a good idea. But I can tell that it is not an organic spray because of the way I feel when exposed to concentrated pyrethrins, and that's how I feel now. I'm pretty sure (with caution, though) that it is not horribly dangerous since the exterminator was not wearing safety gear. I guess I'm just wishing I lived farther from the possibility of having poison, no matter how 'safe', sprayed near me or my animals. Sorry for my whinning....
