Extra attached to soft shell egg? Please Help

I went to collect eggs today and found a soft shell egg broken open in the box. I have had these before, but as I went to clean it I realized the black poop wasn't there earlier, and there is some type of string thing coming off the top of the egg. I didn't move anything so sorry the second pic isn't very good. Is this ok/normal or is something wrong with one of my hens? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!




I couldn't zoom very well but the string thing is the long white object coming off the top.

It's just a fluke in the plumbing. Your bird should be fine. Make sure you have free-choice oyster shells available to your birds at all times to keep their shells good and strong. An occasional soft-shelled or misshapen egg is nothing to worry about. They are not uncommon in new layers or hens coming back into lay after a break. If it starts happening frequently then you need to worry.
