Extra egg, will it hatch?

How’s she doing?

Still making progress but not out of the shell yet.

She has an umbilical cord or something wrapped around her foot. A smell piece of it is still attached the to the egg. I’ve seen similar things before and they’d break them on their own, bleed a little, but be fine. I’m hoping that will be the case here too.

She is doing really well!
I’m going to let her fluff up and gain her strength in the incubator for a day or two. Afterwards I’ll have to figure out where to put her.

I do have some chicks in the brooder I’d like to introduce her with, but they’re already 2-3 weeks old and more than twice her size right now.
Still no sign of hatching from the other egg, but once this chick is fluffed up I’ll clean the incubator a little and give it another few days.
Maybe if it does hatch, having two chicks of a similar size would make introducing them to the older girls a little easier.

Awesome! My hatchlings did great being introduced with their older siblings until the siblings started maturing. After that they didn’t pick on the ones already introduced only new ones.

Baby is doing well. I’ve put her with my three week old mix and they’ve been playing nice so far. Baby spends most of her time under the brooder plate. But is eating, drinking, and nearing a year old now.

I’ve removed the last egg now. It’s been three weeks and I found it had a slight smell. I decided to try an egtopsy and opened it up, starting slow from the air cell. A chick did develop, but judging from the red liquid, I think bled to death a few days ago. I think we had another malpositioned chick and she happened to hit a bad vein.

A year old? ... I’m so reluctant to do An eggtopsy I have a spot in the back corner of the yard where the ravens hang out so I leave unsuccessful eggs there for them lol

A week old. Pftt. Sorry.

I usually just toss the bad eggs, but I wanted to try and see if I could figure out what happened.
