Extra egg?

Hi,

Ok so this is the second time this has happened in the last 4 days. I have 4 barred rock hens and we have collected 5 eggs for that day. I collected the eggs the night before and looked thoroughly thru the coop and had 4 eggs, the next day we had 5. Do I have a ghost hen leaving me a gift? Is this possible?

Why sure, every flock has a ghost hen or two.

My guess is that one of your hens is laying two eggs over the period of a day. On the day after the 5 eggs have you been getting 3? Generally the 'egg every 24 hr+' cycle seems to even out.

Yes you are right with the 3 I believe. It happened this past Saturday then again yesterday. I am not complaining but I might run with the ghost hen story for a while.
