Extra Protein Needed

Well, I have never even seen layer feed at 20%. Most layer pellets are 16%. I am not trying to tell you what to do either, just letting you know what the proper level should be in my opinion. Too much protein can actually cause some feather problems. Thanks.

I've always added D.E. to my feed and it seeme to help with feather regrowth. It can still be a slow process, though. So glad you have them now. Some people have no sense. I wonder if they(previous owner) would be satisfied with eating bread and nothing else.Sheesh.

Yeah, probably have to wait till molt, since feathers aren't quite like our hair and grow in "spurts" so to say.

As for protein, I aim to average about 16 or so, and since mine free range and eat so many scraps, I often buy a 20% layer supplement feed to make sure they don't pick the poor roosters neck bald. Silly guy just stands there with his head slightly lowered as he lets the girls pull the feathers off!!! Hasn't happened since the new feed though. I say if something is not "right" in the long run, then change their diet.

aaawww poor little girls. Treat them to some mealworms, hard boiled egg and plenty of affection.
