My barred rock chick is getting quite a few wing feathers in, but they are much more thin and scraggly than the wing feathers coming in on my other chicks of the same age. When she spreads her wings, they look borderline skeletal. There's a lot of the quill part showing and not very much actual feather, if that makes sense? She's preening as often as the others, and not getting pecked. Is this usual for a barred rock, or could it indicate some other health problem? Thanks in advance for any advice!

I had a Cuckoo Maran chick that was slow as heck getting her feathers....all of the other chicks were fully feathered and she was JUST starting to get her wing feahers!!! Weird...but eventually she filled out and looked totally normal...but they even came in weird like sticking out at first??? Anywho...no one's the wiser now...I guess their all different just like us...thus the saying..."only a face a Mother could love"!!!

Just give her time.

It is fine my runt peepers was a late bloomer she still hasn't lost all of her/his head feathers, all bird's get feathers at different time's but when it comes to BR's mine never hit the "UGLY" stage they just had featehrs falling out and the next day they had all there feathers so don't worry they will come in and look great.

Oh, good, that's a relief! I was worried she had mites or something, but I examined her skin, and it seems clear. When they were first coming in, they looked just like Keri78 described, sticking out at odd angles. I will just be patient and watch as she grows into her natural beauty!
