Hi I am new to the site and new to chick raising. Joined the forum to get some much needed help and advice!

Have many different breeds of chickens in the backyard and normally they breed fine but since it's become winter my mum wanted to incubate the fertile eggs and raise the chicks by hand.

Two days ago one egg hatched a yellow little chick with black spots. We left him in the incubator for one day and the next once he was dry and fluffy moved him into a aquarium tank with a red heat lamp. Left him food and water. He was active and healthy but over night took a turn for the worse.

Currently his symptoms are heavy panting, gasping like movements, closed eyes, laying flat on his belly with spread wings, and sudden spasms which sending him tumbling.

I have tried to give him some sugar water and some store bought chick feed which I mush up with the sugar water and feed through a small syringe.

I am completely new to this and obviously was not prepared but am heart broken that I cannot help him so I am reaching out for help.

Thanks in advance for any help. I am really trying my best and would be greatly sadden to lose the little fella. :(

Does the chick have room to move out of the heat? Have you checked the tank for temperature? It sound like the chick may be too hot. I'd move it to something other than a glass aquarium (large cardboard box would do) making sure that the chick has plenty of room in the box to get out of the heat if it wants to. Keep food and water out of the heat as well. Good luck.
