Hi everyone! I have a few ducks, one being a 4 week old Pekin duckling. I’ve noticed that one if it’s eyes has been very red, and the fur around it has crustifed and turned yellow. Not sure why or what this is and want to know how to help my lil duck. Thanks so much!

Can you post a pic of your ducklings eye? Any other symptoms ? And do you have a bucket or bowl set out so your ducks can dunk their heads? Keep their eyes and nares cleaned out?

Yes I will post a picture and they do have a bowl to do so, but I never really see them doing it.

First I would make a saline was 1/8 teaspoon of salt and a cup of water. Boil the water and add the salt let it cook down till it’s comfortable on your wrist pour it over this eye you want to rinse it out real good and be sure to mix the salt in real well before using. Do you have any Terramycin eye ointment? Many feed stores carry it and you can. Get it on line too if this is an infection the Terramycin will clear it up if a irritation the wash should help. Is it just one eye and is there any other symptoms raspy breathing? And do they get to play in the tub or pool?

Perfect thank you so much. I don’t really notice any other symptoms I can deffintly hear them breath but it’s not raspy. They do get to play in the bath and are getting a kiddy pool today.
