I have a broody hen who is a couple days out from eggs hatching. I went to check on her today and noticed her eye. Watching her it looks like she will repeatedly blink until her eye looks “normal” but then quickly goes back to looking like this. Any suggestions on what it is or what to do for her?

Has she been pecked in the eye by another hen trying to get her to move from the nest box? There might be infection or a foreign body or dirt in it. It would be good to irrigate her eye with Eye Wash or saline, and then apply some Terramycin or plain Triple Antibiotic Ointment twice a day.If you can have someone take a picture of her eye as you have it opened.

She and one other broody hen are in a small coop by themselves. I guess it’s possible the other tried to switch nests. I will try that, thank you!

In the first picture her eye looks like it is either damaged or the third eyelid may be covering her eye. The second one looks like the pink tissue in the eye is inflammed. I would open the eye to get a better look which you can do while giving the ointment. Chickens see far away out of the left eye and see close up with the right eye. Here is some resding about their eyes:
