This is Davey, she was pecked by another of my hens, at first it seemed fine, but by end of day it was worse, so I put her in sick bay.
I’ve rinsed the eye and put poly dex drops.

Before I can the vet, is this an injury or worms?

no signs of distress, respiratory illness and she’s eating and drinking fine.

If she was fine before the pecking by the other hen and then this appeared, I'll go with "injury." There are some eye medication products out there like Vetricyn - or you can go with plain ole regular Neosporin, or if you have a terramyacin eye ointment somewhere. Usually these things clear up quickly so long as infection doesn't take hold. Definitely keep her where the others can't touch her while it heals.

Your poly dex drops sounds like antibiotic plus prenisolone, so that would probably be good to use twice a day. Has your hen been acting sick or sluggish? Is she picked on a lot? Peck injuries do happen. I had a hen who lost sight in her eye due to another chicken pecking her. I would not think this is from eye worms, which are rare.

Thanks for the responses. They were helpful.

No, the hen that pecked her had been just reintroduced to the flock, after a one night stay In sick bay to observe a respiratory issue, thank goodness, minor.

The only only thing is that she may have been stressed initially and pecked davey once. It didn’t look bad, so I didn’t separate and she went after her again due to the injury.l think.

she’s looking way better. I have a small backyard flock of 7 chickens, I’ve kept her in at night, but let her out with them a little yesterday and all day today. I’m extra careful in watching them while they’re free ranging and Snowy (the pecker) has not been aggressive. I’ve kept Davey in Sick Bay tonight and will continue to monitor.

thank goodness, not my first eye injury, the drops were from that, earlier in the spring.

Then here they are being the Tweedle Dee Sisters, hanging out like nothing is wrong and breaking the rules
