Hi! I have a quail that I noticed was keeping her right eye shut. She has no other signs of illness. I thought she may have had something in it, so I rinsed her eye with an animal antimocrobial eyewash. She does not have anything that I can see in here eye nor do I see an injury. I rinsed her eye twice a day for 3 days with vetericyn eyewash. The eyewash is approved for daily use. I also treated with ophthalmic terramycin ointment. She is now opening up her eye a lot more, but mostly likes to keep it shut. I am on day 5 of terramycin treating 3 times a day and don’t want to continue with too many antibiotics and the drug info does not give a duration of use. I feel like it’s helping a bit, but it has not shown a drastic improvement like I would have hoped. Any suggestions on what to try next or how long to use terramycin for?

I think you can safely use the Terramycin eye ointment 2-4 times a day for 10 days without worry. Have you ever seen bubbles in the eye, or any other symptoms in her that might suggest a respiratory disease?

I have not seen any other signs and she has been inside with us in a small cage as she heals. She has been closely monitored. She is eating tons and drinking normally. Sadly, the other eye has a cataract and is blind in it.
