Eye Pecking

Why are my chickens obsessed with pecking us and the kittens in the eyes? They are about 17 weeks old and they don't seem to do it to each other. We love our chicks but don't want to go blind trying to take care of them. How do we stop these little raptors from lunching on our eyeballs!?!?

In short don't hold them close to your face. Your eyes sparkle and chickens like to instinctively peck at and eat anything shiny. That is why I have found silver dimes, wedding bands, and costume jewelry in chickens' gizzards.
