I recently purchased 6 jumbo brown cotournix quail that are around 4 weeks of age. One of the younger in the bunch has never had either of its eyes open for as long as i have had it. The poor thing just wanders around the cage and stays all alone. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything i can do for it or will it eventually take care of itself?

I had a female that got pecked in the eye by my male so I separated her from the rest. She couldint really open her eyes only for a few seconds and her eyes would have a lot of tiny bubbles. Since you're hasint seen sunlight for a while try to put it in a dark room cause if it's not opening its eyes it's probably gonna hurt when it opens it from not seeing light for a while, anyway how's it eating??

Im not sure how much putting it in the dark will help since they are outside all night but i will give it a shot. She is eating fairly well when she can find the feeder and sometimes i move her over to the feeder so i know she is still feeding.

She may have been pecked in the eyes or has an eye infection. You can try some human eye drops on her. Rinse the eyes of with a warm sponge to clean the eyes and then put drops in the eyes.

If this doesn't help after a day or so, you can order eye ointments on line for poultry eyes. These here will take care of most eye infections...

I would keep her in a very warm place by herself for a couple days while you are working on her eyes. Keep water and food nearby so she can find it. You might need to dip her beak in the water so she can drink. Tap on the floor with your fingers at food at her feed to get her to eat.

Try the eye drops for now, but you might go ahead and order these drops for her.

i had a couple of eye problems myself, I just was directed to use a warm wash cloth to soften the eye if there was any infection, or dirt clumping. And then use a q -tip to put some neosporin on it. Mine all cleared up with one application. Not sure if you're dealing with an infection or maybe eye worms? Any swelling? Or clumping? Wetness around the eyes?
