Hi guys, I have not taken "growing up" pics of my F2s until today, and I did it very badly through the wire, as it was getting dark, but I made myself "just do it" and maybe how bad they look will make me take better pics soon. I hatched my first F2's several weeks ago and here is what they look like. So far, things I have noticed... the more white they show in their juvenile plumage, seems like the more mille fleur they have. F1 (mottled mamas from MF daddy) ALL hatched out with hard hock feathers. Not full blown vulture hocks but really headed that way. This generation has SOFT pretty hock feathers, not a hint of vulture hocks on a single one. Looks like the will have nice cushions too. Anyhow, this is what they looked like when they hatched.
The one on the far right looked for all the world like a porcelaine chick, but ended up looking more like buff columbian. Light buff.
That dark brownish one in the upper left, facing away, ended up black on top, buff on the bottom. Crum, I thought I had a better pic, I must have deleted it.
This little guy has the shortest back and the brightest mille fleur colors. He is already showing MF pattern on his feet, wings, back, hocks, just everywhere. I'm afraid he will be "a bit much" when he is older but for now he looks like the best one.
These two darker girls have hardly any extra white splotches, but hardly any white tips showing on their feathers. Any genetics pros out there able to tell me if this is too dark of a brown to work with, or is it closer to the right color?
Ooops! Forgot this girl! She hathched about a couple weeks ahead of these others.
