I just came within 50ft of a big cat in my creek, went out to lock the girls up and my LSGD went nuts, I saw a possum so we got the bow and came back out, couldn't find him so we started scanning the creek bed and BAM there is a massive mountain lion, staring into my soul. We locked eyes and stared for a few seconds, husband raised his bow and then held it there realized all the bow would do is tick it off. We ran to get the gun but it was long gone... I am absolutely in shock, we are in city limits but have at least 500 acres of untouched greenbelt behind us with the creek running through it. The city gave me the go ahead to shoot it if it comes back, my daughter routinely lets the girls out in the morning, and this cat was within feet of my kids trampoline, we will be on high alert from here on out. I just cannot believe it, never thought I would have an encounter like that. Much less in my backyard in the city at 8pm

I guess the girls will be under lock and key for a while.

Wow, that would have sent my heart to knocking! Hope you've seen the last of him and he doesn't interfere with your animals.

I lived in NE Kansas for many years and there were several reports of sightings of those from people I knew personally. The ex as well as a couple co-workers actually saw one sitting at the edge of some woods not far from where they worked right on the city limits. Funny thing is, throughout the years whenever someone would notify Fish & Game, F&G would always say they were wrong, they must have seen something else. Total denial and not wanting to alarm the general public I guess.

Animal control told me they get reports often, there is a rumor they released a bunch of big cats in the area to control the feral pig population bc it has gotten out of control, while we live in the city we are surrounded by farm land and wooded areas. The only reason it concerns me is that my kids play out there a lot and they would look like yummy running, jumping steak strips!
