My barred rock has a large tumor that is fluid filled in the red skin on the side of her face below her eye. It is the size of a walnut. She is eating well and has laid eggs almost every day this month. I have drained the fluid from it once but the tumor refilled. It looks horible. Any suggestions for what I could do?

While antibiotics can be a good thing in the right situation, I personally do not recommend administration of antibiotics until you know exactly what you are dealing with. There are many kinds of infections, and the wrong type of antibiotic will do nothing to help.

Do you have an avian vet nearby, or are you going to try to heal her on your own?

If you're going to take a crack at this, can you post a picture of the hen's face? It may help some of our experienced folks figure it out.

Good luck, and do keep us posted!
