Ok, so I did bumblefoot surgery on my bird and I don't think I got all the infection out. The infection was stringy and not solid. Will it solidify over time? Should I try the surgery again?
No. She has had Tylan twice before and the second time I used it it wasn't very effective. I think I'm going to try soaking the foot in epsom salts everyday and see if that helps.
After you cut it open and squeeze out all the hard stuff you need to inject the wound with a combiotic.
Combiotic is an injectable medication which contains a combination of two antibiotics, Penicillin and streptomycin, to achieve a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity.
" I thought Combiotic (penicillin and dihydrostreptomycin) has been
unavailable in the US for over 10 years."
...............................................................
"Sue, you are partly correct in that Combiotic was taken off the market.
The INJECTABLE form was taken off the market a bit over 10 years ago. BUT
the same drug combo IS still available as a dry cow treatment called
"Quartermaster". You have to get it from a vet or with a prescription but
PBS Animal Health carries it in the prescription drug section (I just
looked in my recent catalog to be sure they did still carry it). I only
know of this because our vet had us use this on all our goats at dry off
after we lost one doe to gangrene mastitis within 48 hours of her
freshening.
Just a clarification of info for you. "
