I have let my girls out to play in the yard yesterday (1st time) and today (2nd time)

both times the minute my buff orpington gets out of the dog crate kennel I use to carry them outside to the x-pen, she lays down sprawled out and doesn't move...she looks like she died instantly...then she'll get up and act normal pecking around, etc...but what is with this strange behavior first thing they are set free outside?

yes, she lays down on her side with one wing stretched out...

that's just purely enjoying the sunshine...??? huH?? interesting....

she's the coolest bird...I'm 90% sure if SHE is a HE my hubby would be OK with keeping 'him' ...but the others not so sure...

I thought maybe she was "playing dead" for some instinctual reason???

Yep, just soaking up the rays. Wait till they find a wonderful dustbath hole and they all go into their Zen mode.

She had a pretty knarly dust bath in her shavings this afternoon and I was worried she might suffocate after she literally buried her whole head under the shavings...but she's fine!
