Hello:

Been checking the weights of my ladies and gents, at around 4 months old, and I was planning to join the heaviest, into their own separate cage

My heaviest female is 425 grams /15 Ounces (Falb fee).
My heaviest male is 301 grams / 10.6 Ounces (Italian).

Question 1:
If I cross Falb Fee (Female) with Italian (Male), what colors do I get, will they be all Falb Fee or half each?

Question 2:
Are these weights easy to beat? If I order eggs from people around am I likely to improve these weights, on either male or female?

Thanks

I'm not 100% sure, but if you mix fee with another colour, you usually end up with a washed out version of the colour (one copy of the fee gene rather than two), but there could be a lot of variation depending on what other genes each bird is carrying.

You can definitely get bigger birds. I think a lot of my ladies weigh in at about 450g, but I haven't weighed them since before they were fully grown.

I got my jumbos from Southwest gamebirds, but they don't ship eggs any more. Thieving Otter farm has their lines, though.

thanks, Im in Europe, so those suppliers are out of reach

You got it! Though probability can sometimes be problematic, we should get 50 percent male/female each hatch. We’ve done 2 hatches so far: first hatch was 4/5 male, second hatch was 13/18 female. Good thing I ordered a second batch of eggs trying to start our flock!
