I get chick food and i feed them spinach...... No he was not an assisted hatch....he is about a month old now and was fine earlier. What are you feeding the chicks?
Where did you get him? If he was a hatch, did you assist him in any way during hatching?
thank you so much.... The chick is pooping and eating alright and its crop is fine... Hopefully he gets well on its own because honestly i don't know what is wrongIs the chick pooping ok? How about the crop, is it emptying? I had a few day old chick that I found on its back in my brooder. I determined that it had and impacted crop and took steps. It ended up pooping out some massive seeds that I have no idea where it got them (they were shipped day old chicks) Once it emptied I gave him some Nutra-drench and monitored. By the next day he was back to being frisky and living life! Hopefully we can help you figure it out and save the little guy. Let us know how he is doing!
The chick is eating bit still not so active..... I have given it electrolytes...At a month of age, I wouldn't give spinach as a feed or even a treat to a chick. I don't have any good reason for that, just a sense that it's not helpful to them, while their feed is designed for their young digestive tracts and in the right balance for good development. If it were me, and we do this for our spring hatches, I'd stick with the Starter Feed and water, though we do offer small, live mealworms at a young age for the protein, but in small quantities...
Some vitamins and electrolytes, even some sugar water may get some energy into the chick. A few drops of Poultry Nutri-Drench of Poly-Vi-Sol would not hurt the chick and can only help her energy.
You say that you've given food and water, but have you actually seen the chick eat or drink? Sometimes we need to hand feed and/or hand water when their health starts to slide quickly. This may be one of those cases, but you'll have to observe the chick closely to determine if its consuming what's offered. Hydration is critical for any treatment to work, so make sure the chick gets fluids one way or another.
Check the crop too. It should be nearly full in the evening and empty (or very close to empty) in the morning. If not empty in the morning, you'll want to research and treat for "Slow-Emptying-Crop" and/or "Impacted Crop".
Update the thread on the chick's progress, and good luck!
