Ahh, I totally misread that post and then proceeded to go off on a complete tangent! So yes the sides of the shed where the roof overhangs are open between the rafters for ventilation and covered by the same hardware cloth. I also have the 4 windows, screens removed, covered by hardware cloth and vents on each end. The windows will remain open the vast majority of the time. I also framed out an additional two windows facing the open run in case more ventilation/light is required.

Can your chickens get under the coop? If they can you may want to block it off. Young chicks can hide under there and you won't reach them and laying hens will hide eggs under there to keep you from taking them. :rolleyes: My Buff Orpingtons that I had as hens would go to extraordinary lengths to hide eggs from me so they could hatch them. But not all eggs hatch and then they get stink-ee!

Yes there is about 18” under the coop giving them extra run without extra real estate. I did not think about them laying under there and hiding eggs!! Then again, it’ll give my 3 kids an important job. I do know the buffs are a broody bird, but crossing fingers we don’t have that issue

Thank you! Yes, this is the first time experimenting with upside down. We are testing on three tomato plants in 5-gallon buckets and a cucumber in a 2-gallon bucket. Tomato plants are doing great. Cucumber, not so much. The way it sits, it gets no direct sunlight. We thought the smaller 2 gallon bucket would make it not as shady. Who knows, it may turn around and thrive. I’ll keep you posted! If this experiment does go well though, we’ll be able to maximize a lot of unused area in the garden. Essentially the entire perimeter of the 20’x30’ garden

Yeah, that was said more in jest. I wouldn’t make them crawl under there. A couple folks near us has an under coop partial run and that part is a dust bowl, which they say their chickens love and gives them a bit of security. You’re right though, I may have to put an access hatch in the coop to be able to clean the hard-to-reach spots.

I’ll lean on you folks and your knowledge. Should I just block it off or give it a go and see if it’s more hassle than it’s worth?
