Hey guys

sad news my old female quail past way :'( but it was peaceful and confirmed old age. RIP NYX you where a dinosaur in a little birds body

Great news my youngest quails sid or vetra have started to lay at 8 weeks I duno who lay it but all seem to be taking turns as to sitting on the eggs even the male??? I've never herd of that??

I don't know how long I should leave the eggs in there? I mean id take them out if they didn't sit on them. but if I let them brood when should I disturb them to check viability???

The young ones do tend to fuss over their eggs. It would be very unusual for them to go broody having only just started laying eggs. They would need to lay a clutch of 7-9 eggs before they would even think about sitting otherwise the chicks wouldn't hatch together. My male used to make a nest and call his girls over to it, encouraging them to sit and lay there. I think he's a bit old for that sort of thing now but he's still very sweet.

Aww sorry to hear that! How old was she? I love how you said she was a dinosaur in a birds body.. That's what I see in my chickens especially when they run after something and tear it up :p

You have coturnix correct? Broodiness is rare but it seems one of mine has triggered when I let about 8-10 eggs pile up lol. I had to switch them to fertile eggs for her current brood but I'm just going to leave them be, perhaps get the ole incubator ready just in case we have some shrink wrapped ones :)

They REALLY like dry grass for their crappy little nests xD!!
