Fan in run: chickens love it!

My favorite purchase of the year: a livestock fan from Valley Vet. On hot days (all this week!) our chickens hang out directly under the fan. It's set on a timer from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

We’ve always used a fan for two reasons. Obvious one is cooling. Second is insect control. We get clouds of gnats where we live in central Illinois. They can kill a chicken by entering their respiratory system. Small coopsters will note the problem when they won’t come out of their box. Put a fan on them and they will soon be scratching and pecking again.
