I have an interesting story to share ...

Yesterday, I picked up 22 chicks that I ordered from a local farm store. They came from a hatchery in Ohio and I placed the order in early April. I decided to have them vaccinated.

The farm store manager mentioned he got 3,500 chicks and I was the only one who requested them to be vaccinated. He specifically kept mine in their own box. I was there when the store opened and got to see all the other chicks, which was amazing.

I've read other BYC posts regarding whether or not to vaccinate and decided to go ahead with the vaccinations.

I find it fascinating that no one else chose to vaccinate their chicks. It makes me wonder if I bought into the FUD (fear, uncertainty, & doubt) and I shouldn't have.

Is there a threshold of backyard flocks and if you only have a handful of chickens then you don't have to vaccinate, but if you have 100 - 200+ then you should vaccinate?

Any comments?

Thanks,

Scott
