Wondering if this is considered Bumblefoot or just a genetic defect of the chick?

Who knew there is a 5- toed chicken?
Learn new things all the time here. 😉

I agree that he looks good.
But. Is he limping?
Why do you ask?

You are aware your breed has 5 toes ..

Picture of the underside, the left toe does look a bit swollen. If it's not limping or red, just keep an eye on it. Bumblefoot usually shows up on the under pad with a scab ... However I just got thru treating my hen who was not walking & limped with a red lump on top, there was no scab on the underpaid. I soaked in Epsom Salt, applied Prid underpad & wrapped for a couple weeks. The lump on the top side is still there but the underpad isn't swollen and she's walking & all's norma, so I removed and keeping an eye on her.

First two pic are at the start, the underpad got more swollen w/a hard lump.
Second two is current, the lump on top is still there but the hardness is less & the underpad is no longer swollen and soft.

When the scabs appear (monthly checks) I leave it alone, heals & falls off its self. In all the years I've raised chickens this is the first time I've had one that couldn't walk. Important factors was I had not added shavings in awhile, so I need to be on top of that and I always remove rocks and stuff they dig up. Their roost is painted for a smooth finish.
