Favorite breed of chicken!

My favorite actual chicken breed is the Black Australorp which is exceptionally hardy, calm and gentle (good lap pets), and excellent layers of brown eggs. However, I've had such a glowing report from a good friend and former neighbor of mine (as well as some other chicken owners) on Salmon Faverolles that I'm seriously considering getting some this spring, assuming they are available in our area. My favorite of all chickens are Black Sex Links which are actually a hybrid and not a breed. BSLs are very friendly and hardy egg laying machines that consistently churn out more than 300 large brown eggs per hen per year. They are especially persistent layers in really cold winter weather.

black copper marans - sweet, docile, friendly, low in pecking order, good layers. my cockerel is a real pet.

naked neck/turken - they are bossy but I just love them! mine are good layers and big birds. interesting personality

minorca - sweet, intelligent, sensitive and very beautiful.

lakenvelder - sweet, intelligent, beautiful.

brahma - simply cutie, friendly, docile. even roos are docile.

I just love Barred Rocks. Ours are silly, curious, in-your-face chickens. I also have a soft spot for our White Rock, Speckled Sussex, Golden Campine, and Black Sumatra. The last two are high energy, intelligent, gorgeous, and critically endangered.

For extra-special colored eggs, I like Black Copper Marans, Welsummers, Easter Eggers (not a true breed), Cream Legbars, and true Ameraucanas.

Have fun choosing. I always say there's so many to choose from and so little time. :)
