The Production Red has always made me pretty happy (every) batch.Best layers I have had,and most docile.They all seem to be curious and explorer too much.

Buff Orpington (the golden variety),has also been a good pet chicken.My hens both BO and PR hens love to be read a nice chapter book.

It has also seems were groupies.The one BO hen,Buffy,and the one PR hen,Banshee,then daddy (me),all stick together as a group,usually with a few sisters.So,I do recommend both breeds.

Leghorns too!Before my leghorn hen died,her Buffy and Buffys sister would all hang out with leghorn.
I was also also aloud to pet my leghorn.

I have no clue.

My BO hens have never brooded,and might this year though.

My favorites are Black Sex Links, which are hardy and friendly, egg laying machines. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds and hybrids), and they have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 eggs per hen per year.
