I have a chicken who seems swollen and just stands there. She will drink and eat if I bring it to her. But today her lower back belly feels swollen. I gave her medicine for cocci and a ferbenzadole and nutridrench. Any advice?

Hello,

I’m sorry your hen is poorly.

The swollen belly sounds like it could be ascites; or she might be egg bound.

Are you able to take her to the vet?

Photos of her and her poop?

How old is she?

When was her last egg?

Does the swelling feel tight like fluid or hard swelling?

Work on hydration, get some extra calcium into her in case she's having a hard time expelling an egg. 1 Calcium Citrate+D3 once daily for a few days.

If you're treating with Corid for Coccidiosis, omit the Nutri-Drench until you finish the course of treatment since there could be a contradiction. Liquid Corid dose is 2tsp per gallon of water given for 5-7days.

Fenbendazole (Safeguard Goat dewormer or Equine Paste) is 0.23ml per pound of weight given once daily for 5 days in a row.
