I had to put down a friend yesterday. My favorite rooster of all time. He was a blue cochin, the calmest kindest rooster I have ever encountered. Some of you might have even seen him in Country magazine with my daughter holding him. Fluffy was his name, not the most dignified, but what you get when you are surrounded by girls. I could trust him 100% with my daughters, and thats a good thing because he was bigger than them at one point. He got nailed by a rattlesnake in the foot/leg protecting his ladies I imagine. I couldn't stand to watch him suffer anymore, and the kids were not at home. I've dispatched a lot of animals and that was one of the hardest. darn SNAKES. I managed to dispatch him as well.
Probably seems silly to have feelings or be emotional over a rooster, but I thought of anyplace some of you might understand. I actually loved that bird.

I'm sorry for your loss.

like a dog or any other pet,, ya get attached, we live in the rattle snake copperhead area and have dealt with this myself,, my goat got nailed by something today, not sure but it might have been a copperhead, going out now to check on brutus, vet is on the way

Thanks everyone. Got home from working a double last night and fed the dog right at last light. I reached down to get the feed and noticed a nice one coiled up about 12 inches from my foot. NOT REAL HAPPY. I picked up a 2x4, and let him have it. NEVER buzzed.
Hope things turned out ok with Brutus.
