Most American, Asiatic, English and Continental class chickens are very cold hardy.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chick..._the_American_Poultry_Association#ContinentalOne not listed there is the Jaerhon, not broody prone, very productive and very cold hardy.
The two excellent charts will answer many of those questions.

How cold is cold?

Thank you!

Barred Rocks, Buff Orpingtons, and Speckled Sussex are my favorites!
Breed: Barred Rocks
Pros: Good layers, some are broody, good rooster, get along with the rest of the flock
Cons: None
Egg Production: Very good
Broodiness: Some go broody, but they are not an overly broody breed
Foraging: Not sure because I keep mine in an outdoor run attached to their coop
Alertness: Average I guess?
Tameness: They are not afraid of humans and are friendly

Breed: Buff Orpingtons
Pros: Good layers, beautiful, friendly to other chickens in the flock
Cons: Aggressive rooster
Egg Production: Good
Broodiness: Of the three I had one was broody
Tameness: Very friendly

Breed: Speckled Sussex
Pros: Friendly, good layers, beautiful
Cons: None
Egg Production: Good
Broodiness: I've never had a broody Sussex
Tameness: Very friendly and some like to be held

Those are good comments but those thoughts and characteristics apply to all 3 varieties of Sussex, not just speckled - all 7 plus varieties of Plymouth rocks, not just barred - all 3+ varieties of Orpingtons, not just buff.
