I ordered French Black Copper Maran eggs and the chicks just hatched. The four chicks that hatched seem to have feather issues. Unlike most baby chicks who fluff up these chicks seem to be missing a lot of down feathers on their backs and some have frizzy feathers. - They are also much smaller than the other FBCM chicks from another breeder

Will their down grow in? Do they need a supplement?

Hi!

That happens often to my silkies. It's from their back rubbing on the shell as they are trying to move around to pip and zip. It's a matter of a couple of days and I wouldn't know the difference.

If you wanted, you could put some Poultry Cell or Nutra Drench in their water for a day.

Different breeders, different stock. I think that happens with all breeds of chickens. They can be purebred, but somewhere down the line a larger one is bred making offspring that is a bit larger. That's why the SOP never says they have to weigh exactly anything, it's a range they should be between for each breed of chicken.

Hi,

Why do you say to only put Poultry Cell or Nutra Drench for a day? Can't zi give this to chicks full time?
