Hi All,

Here are some pics of my 19 day old French black copper marans, whom I’ve named Gigi. Today I noticed what look like waddles coming in, has anyone heard of a hen having waddles come in early??? This is the second FBCM chick I’ve gotten as the first one died from failure to thrive and I really need this to be a hen. The chick is not bossy or terribly extroverted, so am thinking it has the personality of a hen.

Ok, thank you @The Moonshiner @BoundlessLove and @wrathsfarm. Not the news I wanted but I suspected as much. Now a question of advice, I got two chicks on 4/12 (born that day), a BLRW and a FBCM. The first FCBM passed at 8 days old. Got a replacement chick on 4/23 so Millie, the BLRW wouldn’t be alone-11 day age difference. Now the second is a he, which I can’t have. If I get a replacement it wouldn’t be for another few days (2 hour drive), and the age difference would now be over 30 days between the two chicks, as Millie is rapidly approaching teenager stage. Would you all get the second chick and just try to hold the BLRW until she’s older to introduce the two to the rest of my flock (5 hens, mixed breeds) at the same time? Or just go ahead and introduce the BLRW as a single?

How long would you want to or could you keep the male?
Just my experience... it's not always easy on a single bird to be introduced.
I'd either keep the male until you can introduce them both then get rid of the male after everyone's established.
Plan B... get two new chicks. Keep the male with the first one until the others get big enough to put with the first one then get rid of the male.
Thinking about it I don't really see a good option here.

Good ideas tho...keep the little man til he crows. 🤫

Edit for brainstorm idea.
Put a feeler ad out looking for chicks the same age as lonely Millie.
