why do my chickens eating each other feather especially the new downy feather? am i not giving them some thing they need

as far as i know it could be two things
A) They are bored
(give them some cabbage or scratch)
b) Not enough protein from growing in general or growing new cells
(give protein supplement Catfood or tuna ext..)
I would try both!

My chickens eat ANYTHING. I've seen them pick at a feather. It usually sticks to their mouth and they go ahead and gulp it down. They usually act a little surprised with feathers. ("What IS this?")

I swear, if I ever hit my head on something and fell down unconscious, I have no doubt they'd eat ME!

This post I quoted from PatS is hilarious!

My girls will eat the down feathers on occasion but I don't think it has anything to do with their lacking something in their diet. They are well feed.
And remember they are still chickens. They'll eat almost anything. As PatS said. "Even me"

Not to worry!
