Welcome to BYC.

I know nothing about the care and management of show chickens, but I love feathered feet.

One of the main things with feather-footed breeds is to make sure that they can never get muddy because mud hardened in their foot feathers can lead to infections and like problems. This isn't an issue for me because I live on extremely well-drained, sandy soil, but it is a problem for people on heavy, clay soils.

Another thing is to make sure that the foot feathers don't collect wet snow.

Dry chickens are healthy chickens is the usual rule for all breeds, but Brahmas, Marans, Cochins, Silkies, etc. need to be able to keep their feet dry (or, at least, to get them dry after foraging in the rain), too. :)

I show silkies and I bathe their feet if they get muddy as well as before shows I don’t have problems with silkies favorelles or my Cochin breaking feathers
