We recently got a Roo and hen from different sources (about 2-3 weeks ago) full grown, rooster is missing his tail feathers (people we got him from said he plucked from being confined), they look like there growing back though. Hen looked in perfect condition, I just notice today that she is missing feather on several parts of her head. Could the rooster be picking on her or is there another cause? It was not like this several days ago, last time I got a good look at her. I took pictures.

I never even thought of that, he has been seen trying to do the deed. That's a relief, shouldn't be long before we collect a few more. Neighbors already gave us a couple week old chick, just too young to go to the coop yet.

Well they are the only 2 we have, should I still separate her now after they've been together for the past few weeks? What kind of disease? My friend had her as a pet for her kids in a suburban area the last few yrs.

Not really sure of what it is. Has she lost feathers around her eyes? If its feathers lost on the base of the head/ neck I would guess mating. If the feathers are missing around her eyes, I would guess disease. I'm not a vet. And I can't quite make out the second picture. Again my first inclination was a mating thing.
