Meet Charlotte, the 9 month old Cochin Frizzle Bantam that appears to be molting. I thought perhaps it is too soon, but have read mixed reviews on cochins molting earlier than average. She started with feather loss around her neck and head. Now her belly is bare, but doesn't appear to have any loss around her vent. Here are a few pictures. I would greatly appreciate a confirmation that this is an early molt, not necessarily a health risk. Additionally, she is trying to go broody for three days now, without laying her own eggs.

If its around her chest and belly she's probably feathering her nest since you state she's broody

. My silkie did that. I didn't realize the extent until I picked her up and she had a huge bald area. They do that to incubate their eggs.
