I’m not real sure where to post this as I’m not even sure if I’m being a helicopter mom.
A few days ago, I noticed Karen had white spots on her neck. I immediately panicked thinking I was seeing some sort of pest. Upon inspection, what I saw were empty holes (quill? Barb? Feather follicle? Not sure of term) where the feather would sit in. There were several empty spaces where feathers should have been nestled down in the quill. There were a few on the right side of her neck, semi near her ear and a little missing on the left side. I thoroughly checked her neck and head and saw no signs pests. Her skin wasn’t red or irritated, no spots or bugs at all. I’m still new to chickens so I’m not sure if this is normal? Is she molting? I live in the tropics and see there’s a type of mine specific to humid climates, but saw no sign of that either. None of the other birds have this scenario going on. About 3 weeks ago she was broody and since we have no rooster, I broke her of it. Could she be picking fights with the other girls and they are pecking her neck?
I tried to get pictures but she was not cooperating. Since she was broody she’s been extra sassy and feisty so it’s hard to tell what’s normal and not at this point. I tried my best to show what I’m seeing, but know the feather loss isn’t even easy to notice. I was the only one of us to notice but I also force her to hug me and love me lol!
Help!
