The little farm, northern Ohio
Hey guys! My sister and her family went on a walk this evening and my niece found this feather. It's about 12 inches long. They live in a small city, lots of homes and businesses around. In northern Ohio. Who's feather is it? Turkey? Owl? Interesting mystery I think. And don't mind the dog's nose in the picture, he's a nosy great dane😂

My guess is that it is an owl flight feather. That makes it illegal for you to have it in your possession. In order to make it easier on law enforcement, it was made illegal to possess any parts (including feathers) of any protected birds. The part about making it illegal to possess any parts is so that law enforcement does not have to prove that you did any harm to the bird when coming into possession of the part.

The Migratory Bird Treaty Act prohibits the taking, killing, capturing, transporting, harboring of the birds or hatching eggs, that which are Native to the United States of America, Europe and central Asia. All are protected by state and federal agencies.
